It typically grows as tightly clustered fans of fibrous crystals that form a seemingly solid mass. As successive layers build during formation, banded patterns develop, producing the rings in different shades of green revealed in polished specimens.

Malachite forms through the weathering of other copper ores and is often associated with copper minerals such as azurite and chrysocolla. It occurs in copper deposits worldwide, with the Democratic Republic of the Congo being the primary source for polished malachite and mineral specimens.

Specifications:
- Mineral: Malachite
- Form: Freeform
- Origin: Democratic Republic of the Congo
- Dimensions: 12.48 × 6.55 × 8.74 cm
- Weight: 1.04 kg
- Finish: Polished
- Features: Concentric rings; flowing banding; exposed host rock
- SKU: OM00008

This is a natural mineral specimen.
