Sourced from Mwinilunga in northwestern Zambia, this limonite quartz forms through hydrothermal and vapor deposition processes where iron hydroxides and oxides create a molecular bond with the quartz surface. As the quartz continues to grow, it covers the limonite layer, producing golden-yellow phantoms. Occasionally, hematite and magnetite deposits create red and grey phantoms. Each kilogram contains variable sizes from a few grams to several kilograms, primarily druzy material with occasional fully formed crystals.
