Ocean Jasper (Orbicular) Polished Sphere – 1.8kg, 115mm | Madagascar

A large-format 8th Vein Ocean Jasper sphere from the Marovato deposit, northwest Madagascar. This vein is recognised among collectors for producing material with particularly dense, well-structured orbicular patterning and strong tonal contrast — both of which are well represented in this specimen.

The sphere displays a pronounced bi-zonal colour distribution: a cream and blush-pink chalcedony ground on one face transitions to deep olive-green and teal-grey zones on the opposite face. Orbicular patterning is dense and varied across the full surface, with orbs ranging from pinpoint scale to approximately 15–20mm. Orb structure varies throughout — white-centred, dark-centred, and simple ring forms are all present, consistent with the complexity typical of 8th Vein material.

A natural open vug is retained through the sphere, with a rough druzy interior. The cavity is a structural feature of the original nodule, preserved through the cutting and polishing process.

Ocean Jasper is a rare orbicular jasper found exclusively along a remote stretch of the northwest Madagascar coastline, accessible only by boat. Mined from a series of distinct veins, the 8th Vein is a recognised later-stage deposit known for producing material with particularly complex orbicular structure and rich colour contrast. This collector-grade polished sphere may show minor surface marks or internal features as part of its natural formation and unique character. Any notable characteristics are clearly visible in the images.
